One of the songs I’ve been learning for the upcoming retreat in Arizona is “Let it be Jesus” by Christy Nockels. When I read the lyrics, they really spoke to my heart. I am praying that you are able to connect to them as well.
One thing I love about this song is that the songwriters used Philippians 1:21 “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
“To live is Christ” means that we proclaim the gospel of Christ.
What I find interesting about this verse is the location where Paul is writing this letter from: Jail. He is locked away, sitting in some nasty jail cell. I highly doubt he got his three-square-meals a day or a pillow to sleep on. But he is writing this letter to encourage the people of Philipi and to…..proclaim the gospel of Christ and further the outreach.
He was in jail for proclaiming Christ. His letter not only reached the church in Philippi but now sits smack between his letters to the Ephesians and Colossians in Bible. …..100 million copies are sold or given away every year!
*BAM!* Take that, jail cell!! Those 4 walls didn’t stop the gospel message!
Take heart, my friends, whatever struggle you are facing, you are not alone. God works through even the toughest situation. He is the calm inside the storm.
“Let it be Jesus
The first name that I call
Let it be Jesus
My song inside the storm….
For me, to live is Christ….”
